Server Load Balancer Testing Methodology

A how-to test guide for measuring the performance, security, and stability of server load balancers under realistic network conditions, including:

  • Measuring the TCP connections per second to test the device’s performance capabilities
  • Measuring the number of HTTP/HTTPS connections per second to determine bandwidth capacity
  • Emulating blended application traffic to validate perfomance under real-world conditions
  • Simulating dynamic pages and image files to validate HTTP Caching
  • Application fuzzing to confirm the load balancer can handle malformed packets or packet errors
  • Validating RFCs 793, 1945, 2616, 2818, and 3501
