BreakingPoint Releases ActiveX Instantiation Strike

Test Network and Security Devices for Commonly Missing Vulnerability Coverage

Austin, TX – July 8, 2008 – BreakingPoint Systems, Inc., the content-aware network and application testing company, today released the “Killed ActiveX Instantiation” strike.  Microsoft has issued a list of more than 445 ActiveX controls that should be stopped, known as “kill bits”, essentially a vendor-provided blacklist of software component vulnerabilities. The BreakingPoint ActiveX strike allows Network Equipment Manufacturers (NEMs) and service providers to ensure that network devices that provide coverage for client-side browser vulnerabilities are covering this often missed exposure.

Details and More Information:

BreakingPoint CTO & Founder Dennis Cox comments:
“BreakingPoint was founded to help network devices push the envelope on performance, in both speed and security. This ActiveX vulnerability is high-risk and our team has found network devices that lacked coverage for most, and in some cases all, of these killed ActiveX controls. By providing NEMs the ability to test for this malicious ActiveX instantiation they can immediately enhance the performance of their devices and help better protect client-side workstations. Unique in the testing industry, our team of researchers in BreakingPoint Labs continuously creates new ways, such as this ActiveX strike, to test and dramatically improve network equipment.”
