UPDATE: See the full video of the Juniper SRX test.
The impact of testing using real blended application traffic and live security attacks was never more apparent than at last week’s event at Juniper Networks. The company brought in Dennis Cox (video below) and other BreakingPoint experts to deliver a full day of presentations and live demos to underscore the importance of this approach to 70+ Juniper engineers and technical marketing experts. Personally, I was blown away by three things: the relationship we’ve developed with the folks at Juniper, the expertise of both companies’ presenters, and the impressive performance of the Juniper SRX.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing video highlights from the event with you in this blog but today I thought I would embed some of the video I captured with my Flip Cam. First up that day was the CTO perspective from Dennis. Dennis shared five important new rules for testing content-aware network devices to ensure that QA is truly stress testing DPI functionality. Interestingly, his messages were later echoed by one of Juniper’s top BreakingPoint power users, who really deserves kudos, as does the whole Juniper team, for taking this more rigorous approach to testing. The performance of the Juniper SRX will, no doubt, be better because of it. Here is a quick snippet. Let us know if you are interested in hearing the entire presentation, it is quite informative.
After Dennis concluded, the audience was able to hear directly from a few of the folks at Juniper who use BreakingPoint in their daily job. For me, this was a highlight since it yielded great information to share with our blog readers and on the website in general. Nothing beats hearing directly from a customer on why they continue to use BreakingPoint testing tools. It was also clear from the reactions of the engineers in attendance that they were using this particular presentation to learn some new BreakingPoint tricks and tips.
Before adjourning for lunch, most of the people in the room gathered around one of our SEs Phil Trainor to see a demo of the BreakingPoint Elite. Pictures certainly say a thousand words:

The afternoon seemed to fly by, with HD Moore kicking us off after lunch with a presentation on "Torture Testing with Realistic Application Traffic and Live Security Strikes" which took a deep dive into how to use BreakingPoint to realistically test security strikes, protocol fuzzing and more. Everywhere we go this is a critical presentation since it not only speaks to the importance of how to properly test with security vulnerabilities, but what it means to blend those with application protocols so that you can have a more holistic performance view of the equipment being tested. Check out some of the video I shot of HD:
Soon thereafter it was time to witness the performance of the Juniper SRX under extreme load using blended application traffic. Stay tuned for more details and videos from the presentations.
