ATI Update 67243 Released

Today, we have released ATI Update 67243 for the BreakingPoint Storm CTM 2.0 operating system. Today's ATI Update releases target 4 versions of BreakingPoint's operating systems - 1.2 (ATI Update 67315), 1.4 (ATI Update 67360), 1.5 (ATI Update 67355), and 2.0.

You might remember from my previous ATI post that we released the first ATI Update for the 2.0 operating system on July 21, 2010. We released that ATI Update for 2.0 only. As a result, this week's updates for 1.2, 1.4, and 1.5 are playing catch-up with the features we added in last week's 2.0 ATI Update. Refer to the release notes for exactly what is in each ATI update.

This ATI Update adds 8 new security strikes in total. Microsoft coverage is very important for our users, and I'm happy to announce the following additional Microsoft coverage in ATI Update 67423:

  • Microsoft Windows Shell .LNK Vulnerability (CVE-2010-2568)
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer Object Tag Information Disclosure (MS09-019)
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer Dynamic Object Tag Information Disclosure (MS10-035)
  • Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007 Cross Site Scripting Vulnerability(MS10-039)
  • Microsoft Access ImexGrid Denial of Service (MS10-044)

The Windows Shell .LNK vulnerability is the subject of recent talk around the security community due to the severity and relative ease of exploitation. While there is not yet an official patch, workarounds have been made available by Microsoft. This vulnerability was discovered in the wild, and public exploits are readily available, so once you protect your systems with the workaround, you can use this ATI Update to test the devices on your network to determine what protections they afford, if any.

I have one administrative item to mention about this update: ATI Update 67360 is the final update for BreakingPoint operating system version 1.4. BreakingPoint ATI support targets the current and previous releases for the BreakingPoint Storm CTM, and BreakingPoint appliance version 1.2.3. If you are running OS version 1.4, now would be a great time to upgrade to our 2.0 release if you want to continue getting updated security strikes and application protocols.
